The Shrew Attacks @ Rice
The Shrew attack is a periodic attack that targets the timeout mechanism of TCP. Shrew attacks cause a complete denial of service through synchronizing the attack traffic to the base TCP retransmission timeout.

Towards robust overlay networks: Enhancing adaptivity with Byzantine resilience @ Purdue
This work shows attacks against adaptation mechanisms employed in network overlays. The authors considered ESM/Narada as an example to show the impact of Byzantine adversaries.

This work shows how authentication mechanisms can be used to defend against DDoS attacks that hide as legitimate clients.
